The design direction for Alchemy was majorly inspired by the
seven stages or operations of alchemical transformation:

alcination, dissolution, separation, conjunction,
fermentation,distillation
and
coagulation
, named on the ancient
text, also known as The Emerald Tablet of Hermes.
